Description:
Bright ruby red in color, it offers notes of wild berries on the nose, with warm hints of coffee and hints of Mediterranean scrub reminiscent of the Tuscan coastal terroir. On the palate, it is full and powerful, with lively tannins and a long finish that expresses the structure of the Bordeaux blend. Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, with a small portion in American oak, lends complexity without overpowering the fruit. The wine was designed to be enjoyed younger than Sassicaia, while maintaining its elegance and personality. It pairs magnificently with grilled red meats, Tuscan braised meats, furred game, aged Tuscan cheeses, and wild boar cured meats. Perfect with specialties from the Tyrrhenian coast, such as wild boar stew, scottiglia, pappardelle with hare ragù, and cheeses such as aged Tuscan Pecorino.
Tenuta San Guido is the legendary winery that created Sassicaia, founded by Mario Incisa, who drew inspiration from his great-uncle Leopoldo Incisa della Rocchetta. Guidalberto takes its name from Guidalberto della Gherardesca, great-great-grandfather of Nicolò Incisa (who managed the estate for forty years), who lived in the Bolgheri area in the early 19th century and was a pioneer of modern agriculture, also famous for planting the famous Viale dei Cipressi (Cypress Avenue). The creation of this second wine has three motivations: the desire to experiment with a Merlot never used before, the desire to offer a younger, appetizing product, and the opportunity to further select the grapes destined for Sassicaia. Guidalberto therefore represents the most accessible approach to the production philosophy of the estate that revolutionized Italian winemaking.
