Cardamaro is a unique aperitif and digestif, made with wine flavored with infusions of cardoon and other Piedmontese botanicals . The wine, made from local grapes, is flavored with a natural extract of Cynara cardunculus (thistle) and other medicinal herbs according to an ancient Bosca family recipe. After aging in large barrels, the resulting bitter liqueur is amber in color and has a smooth, bitterish flavor with hints of dried fruit, caramel, orange peel, and sweet spices. It is enjoyed as an aperitif served with ice and orange peel, or as a natural digestif.
