A historic liqueur produced by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe from 1605 (the "elixir of long life" donated to the Charterhouse of Vauvert by Marshal d'Estrées) , fully deciphered over a century later, which includes 130 herbs, flowers, and spices. Today, the recipe is known only to two monks of the order, who prepare the different groups of herbs and spices separately, each ignoring the other's ingredients. The production process is long and complex, with several stages of maceration and distillation and part of the aging process in oak barrels, and the natural green color comes solely from the herbs used.
Quite complex, with initial notes of peppermint and anise, followed by balsamic nuances of pine and fresh herbaceous hints, on the palate it progressively reveals notes of thyme, sage, gentian and cardamom.
