Description:
A deep golden yellow in color with amber highlights, it offers a broad and complex bouquet of ripe apricot, chestnut honey, and candied fruit, with bold notes of aromatic herbs and an elegant touch of sweet spices. On the palate, it is sweet and enveloping, with a pleasant tannic note typical of Verduzzo that combines with a refreshing freshness, lending balance and complexity. The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of ripe fruit and honey. Traditionally paired with Friulian desserts such as gubana, strucchi, and pinza, it also pairs perfectly with aged cheeses, particularly Montasio d'alpeggio. Its light tannins also make it interesting with Venetian-style liver and pumpkin-based dishes, and it is also excellent with lightly smoked San Daniele prosciutto and pitina, a typical sausage from the Pordenone valleys.
La Roncaia, a Fantinel family winery located in the hills of Nimis in Friuli, produces this Ramandolo from vineyards in the eponymous area, a very small plot in the northern part of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, where Verduzzo reaches its peak expression. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe and left to partially dry on the vine, concentrating sugars and aromas. After gentle pressing, the must ferments slowly, and the wine ages partly in stainless steel and partly in French oak barrels for approximately 20 months in total, during which constant bâtonnage is performed. The 2019 vintage, particularly warm and dry, produced a Ramandolo of great concentration and aromatic complexity.
