Designation of Origin: Merlot Friuli Isonzo DOC
Color: red
Type: still
Grape variety: Merlot
Alcohol content: 12.5%
Bottling location: Villanova (GO) ITALY
Description:
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red, tending toward garnet with aging. The nose is characterized by Merlot's typical red berry aromas, especially black cherry, blackberry, and blueberry, but also plum, vanilla, and cocoa, thanks to its barrique aging. On the palate, it is warm and envelops the palate with soft tannins and a rich acidity that pairs beautifully with the toasted nuances and fruitiness, finishing with a long, pleasant finish. Aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks, it rests for another 6 months in bottle before being released, making it ideal for serving with delicate white and red meats and semi-mature cheeses.
With over 500 years of history (since April 1499), the Villanova estate is the oldest in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Located on the border between the two DOC zones of Friuli's excellence, Isonzo and Collio, just a few kilometers from Slovenia, between Alpine winds and Adriatic breezes, it is characterized above all by its well-established attention to the "sculpting of the vineyard," as well as biodiversity and environmental protection, while also promoting research and innovation in winemaking.
