Warm and juicy on the palate, with a notable and lingering acidity that perfectly balances the silky sweetness.
Eiswein is a passito wine produced only in Nordic countries. As in this case, the grapes are harvested at at least 8 degrees below zero in the early hours of the morning and pressed while still frozen, so that the still-frozen water is retained in the skins and only the essence, highly concentrated in both sugar and aromatic structure, is extracted. The rather small amount obtained, literally a nectar squeezed drop by drop, is then blended with reserves from previous vintages to obtain an adequate number of bottles. Another peculiarity of this wine is that the Urzig and Wehlen vineyards from which it comes are all ungrafted, that is, vineyards that have resisted the vine phylloxera that in the mid-nineteenth century destroyed 80% of the European varieties (which were subsequently hybridized with the root system of their American counterparts, the "pied" in fact, capable of resisting the lethal insect, unlike the foliage which instead deteriorated much more than the European variants). This is also why the owner of the family, Ernst Loosen, known as Mister Riesling, is also the president of the Riesling Association.
