Ardbeg Corryvreckan takes its name from the famous sea vortex located north of the island of Islay, one of the largest and most dangerous in the world, a choice that perfectly reflects the intense and powerful nature of this whisky. What makes it truly special, however, is its unconventional aging process: it is matured in a combination of American ex-bourbon casks and new French oak casks (virgin oak), with malt peated to very high levels (approximately 50 ppm), giving the whisky the characteristic smoky character typical of Islay. Furthermore, the traditional chill filtration is not performed, thus preserving all the essential oils and flavors of the spirit, resulting in an extraordinarily complex result, where intense smoky notes intertwine with hints of black pepper, dark chocolate, and a distinctive marine note, typical of Islay whiskies.
