Description:
A deep, dark ruby red, it is decidedly intense and rich on the nose, with notes of dried red fruit (a key characteristic of Sforzato della Valtellina) and spicy, balsamic notes that blend with warm, enveloping tannins on the palate. Fresh and smooth, with an overall drinkability and a very long finish, it is excellent paired with meat, game, and aged cheeses. It can easily be aged for ten years.
The flagship of the Dirupi winery, born after years of failed attempts that earned it the nickname "vino sbagliato," Sforzato is a wine of great intensity that succeeds admirably in its aim to honor Nebbiolo: the grapes, grown on sandy, morainic soils over 600 meters above sea level, are first left to macerate in stainless steel for three weeks and then mature for a year in barrique and another year in bottle, with an excellent result that has made the two young winemakers, Pierpaolo Di Franco and Davide Fasolini, a benchmark for Valtellina viticulture.
