Description:
A deep golden yellow in color with amber highlights, the nose reveals an elegant bouquet of ripe fruit—apricot, peach, dried figs—with notes of honey, chamomile flowers, and a delicate touch of vanilla. On the palate, it is sweet and balanced, with a fresh acidity that perfectly balances the sweetness, lending vivacity and drinkability. The finish is long and persistent, with a return of fruity and floral notes. It pairs perfectly with traditional Lombard desserts and all versions of Torta Paradiso. Excellent with soft cheeses such as Taleggio and sweet Gorgonzola, in the local tradition it is often served with classic Milanese panettone and almond shortbread cookies. An interesting pairing is with pumpkin-based dishes such as tortelli Mantovani or pumpkin risotto.
The Passito di Verdea "Solitaire" is produced by the Nettare dei Santi winery in the San Colombano al Lambro area, the only DOC in the province of Milan, a wine-growing island between Lombardy and Emilia. Verdea is a rare native grape, grown almost exclusively in this area, particularly suited to the production of sweet wines due to its natural acidity. The grapes are harvested when fully ripe and left to dry on racks in ventilated rooms for approximately three months, during which they lose water and concentrate their sugars and aromas. After gentle pressing, the must ferments slowly at a controlled temperature, and the wine ages in small oak barrels for approximately 12 months.
