It is the result of a masterful blend of malts from Nikka's two historic distilleries (and one of founder Masataka Taketsuru's first successes): Yoichi, located on the island of Hokkaido, known for its robust, peaty whiskies produced in coal-fired stills, and Miyagikyo, in the Sendai region, which produces more delicate, fruity malts. These are complemented by grain whiskies produced in the distillery's traditional Coffey stills. The blending process follows the Japanese philosophy of balance and harmony, creating a whisky that combines the complexity of single malts with the smoothness of grain whiskies. The result is an elegant and multifaceted spirit, with notes of ripe fruit, honey, sweet spices, and a subtle hint of smokiness, perfectly representing the classic Japanese whisky style.
