Description:
Ruby red in color with garnet highlights, it presents a refined and generous bouquet on the nose, with hints of violet accompanied by notes of red fruits and delicate spicy nuances typical of the Vespolina and Uva Rara blend. On the palate, it is dry, savory, and harmonious, with soft tannins, good freshness, and a clean finish with floral and fruity overtones. Its character is more immediate than that of the Gattinara, thanks to the contribution of the complementary grapes that lend smoothness. It pairs splendidly with Piedmontese cured meats, mushroom risotto, grilled red meats, polenta and stews, and semi-mature cheeses from Alto Piemonte. It is also perfect with local specialties such as paniscia vercellese, cotechino with lentils, and traditional Piedmontese country dishes.
Sizzano DOC comes from a fluvioglacial hill in the municipality of Sizzano that extends along a north-south axis: a predominantly clayey plateau divided into two hilly strips, with deeper, clayier soils in the upper part of the hill and more pebbly and looser soils along the western slopes that slope toward the valley floor. This diversity of soils gives the wine complexity and a distinctive character compared to Gattinara. Chiosso vinifies Sizzano following the Alto Piemonte tradition, adding small percentages of Vespolina and Uva Rara to the Nebbiolo, which soften its austere character, creating a more drinkable wine that is certainly more versatile in food pairing.
