Description:
An intense ruby red with garnet highlights, it opens on the nose with a rich and complex bouquet of aromas ranging from ripe red fruits—blackberry, raspberry, and currant—to small berries, with balsamic nuances and sweet spices enriching the aromatic profile. On the palate, it is soft-bodied and bold, characterized by a substantial structure balanced by the grape's lively freshness and well-integrated tannins that lend elegance and persistence. Ideal paired with red meats, traditional Piedmontese braised meats, aged mountain cheeses, and meat-based pasta dishes.
“Umberta is first and foremost a friend, then a wine, because for us this variety is female,” as the producer describes it, a perfect expression of the calcareous-clayey soils of the Basso Monferrato and Fabrizio Iuli's passion for historic Piedmontese grape varieties.
The winery adopts strictly certified organic management, favoring low yields per hectare that guarantee exceptionally high-quality and concentrated grapes. The winemaking process follows traditional protocols: spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts, a prolonged 20-day maceration to maximize color and structure, followed by a patient aging period of 10-11 months in concrete vats to preserve the varietal freshness, completed by three months of bottle maturation. The avoidance of any invasive intervention—clarification and filtration—preserves the wine's personality.
