Description:
Ruby red in color with garnet highlights, it presents an intense and generous bouquet on the nose with notes of underbrush, accompanied by subtle sensations of spice, tobacco, and cocoa. With age, notes of white truffle and light hints of tar, typical of Nebbiolo, emerge. On the palate, it is dry, powerful, and velvety, with well-balanced tannins and a lingering finish with a warm, enveloping aftertaste. The long aging of 62 months lends complexity and a majestic structure. Ideal paired with braised meats in Barolo, fine red meats, furred game, Alba white truffle, and aged Piedmontese cheeses, it is also excellent with Langhe specialties such as mixed boiled meats and finanziera.
For four generations, the Stroppiana winery has been producing wines in the Langhe region, from the heart of the Bussia cru in Monforte d'Alba, on Swiss-era soils composed of limestone interspersed with sandstone, at an altitude of 400 meters. The 1990 vineyards guarantee highly concentrated grapes with yields of 50-60 quintals per hectare. Harvest takes place in mid-to-late October, followed by fermentation on the skins for 10-15 days at controlled temperatures no higher than 30°C, with 4-6 daily pumpings. The wine ages for the required 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, then is transferred to stainless steel for several months before bottling the summer before release. Average annual production is just 1,800 bottles.
