Description:
A medium-intense straw yellow in color, it presents a rich bouquet of acacia and lime blossoms, complemented by citrus notes that reveal the grape's complexity. On the palate, it offers warm sensations with a good alcohol level balanced by a remarkable mineral freshness, resulting in a long and persistent finish. Derthona is a highly representative example of Timorasso's most significant characteristics: power, structure, mineral complexity, and aromatic characteristics that suggest considerable potential for aging. It pairs magnificently with rich fish dishes, shellfish, elaborate risottos, white meats, and aged cheeses. It also pairs beautifully with Piedmontese specialties such as vitello tonnato, bagna cauda, and cheeses such as Robiola di Roccaverano.
Walter Massa is the universally recognized pioneer of Timorasso, the man who saved the grape variety from extinction in the 1970s and, through tireless experimentation and dedication in the vineyard and cellar, brought it to prominence as one of Italy's great white wines. Vigneti Massa's Derthona is the wine that introduced Timorasso to the world. The grapes come from vineyards located on the Tortona hills in the province of Alessandria, harvested and selected entirely by hand. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins for 48-60 hours at a controlled temperature of 18-22°C. The wine then ages in steel and cement tanks, with bottle aging for at least six months, creating an ancient wine brought back to life.
