Description:
It features an intense ruby red color with purple highlights. The nose offers a rich and complex bouquet, with initial notes of ripe red fruits, particularly blackberry, plum, and black cherry, followed by characteristic Mediterranean aromas of scrubland, myrtle, and rosemary. Spicy notes of black pepper, tobacco, and a hint of leather give way to a warm and enveloping palate, characterized by ripe, well-integrated tannins that support a substantial, elegant structure. The underlying freshness harmonizes with the alcohol and the evident savory character. Combined with the long and persistent finish, with a return of ripe red fruits and sweet spices, this makes it a suitable accompaniment to regional Sardinian cuisine, from heartier first courses like malloreddus or culurgiones, to second courses of grilled meats, mutton and lamb dishes, game, and medium-aged cheeses.
Founded in 1960 as a cooperative of producers in Sulcis, in the southwest of the island, Cantina Santadi is today one of the most important and renowned wineries in Sardinia, especially for its revitalization of native grape varieties. Rocca Rubia owes its name to the reddish rocks found in some areas of the estate, which influence its aromas and, more importantly, their presence has allowed the Carignano vines to resist phylloxera and to continue to be grown ungrafted, some for over a hundred years. Vinification also follows traditional methods: after a long maceration on the skins followed by aging for approximately 10-12 months in French oak barrels, a further period of bottle aging is provided. The consultancy of oenologist Giacomo Tachis has contributed significantly to the winery's qualitative evolution.
