Glen Elgin Distillery, founded in 1898, was the last distillery built in Speyside during the Victorian whisky boom (as its founder prophetically predicted). It still retains traditional features of its original production, including larch washbacks and a cooling system using traditional external coils (worm tubs), which give the whisky a fuller, more complex character. This single malt is aged primarily in ex-bourbon American casks, with a small percentage of ex-sherry casks, perfectly embodying the classic Speyside style, with a balance of sweetness and complexity that has made it particularly popular with blenders, so much so that it is a key component of many prestigious blended whiskies.
