Description:
It has a brilliant ruby red color verging on garnet. The nose offers a complex and captivating bouquet, alternating notes of fresh red fruits such as cherry and wild strawberry with floral scents of rose and violet. Upon aeration, elegant spicy notes of black pepper and cloves emerge, along with delicate hints of Mediterranean aromatic herbs and a characteristic mineral note of graphite, typical of Etna wines. On the palate, it is elegant and well-structured, with fine, silky tannins that support a rich and complex flavor profile. The lively acidity lends freshness and longevity to the wine. Notes of red fruit, sweet spices, and the typical, pronounced volcanic minerality are evident, with a long finish. Perfect with rich first courses such as pasta alla Norma or with porcini mushrooms, it is excellent with grilled or roasted red meats, especially roast lamb, but also with rich fish dishes such as grilled tuna or swordfish Messina-style, medium-aged cheeses, and cured meats.
Alta Mora is the Etna project of the Cusumano family (the "alta mora" in question is precisely the Alto Monte Nero), which combines an absolute respect for tradition with the most modern winemaking techniques. The vineyards, spread across different districts of Etna, allow them to capture the nuances of the volcano's diverse microclimates and terroirs, while fermentation in stainless steel with frequent pumping over and délestage, and a year of aging in Slavonian oak barrels, contribute to its complexity without overshadowing its varietal characteristics.
