Description:
It features a luminous straw yellow color with golden highlights. On the nose, it explodes with Mediterranean aromas, where intense notes of citrus, white flowers, and aromatic herbs intertwine with hints of flint and saltiness. Upon aeration, delicate nuances of white peach, orange blossom, and fresh ginger emerge. The palate, dominated by citrus notes, medicinal herbs, and a pronounced minerality, reveals a wine with great personality, where the pronounced savory flavor balances perfectly with an underlying freshness. Perfect with seafood appetizers, especially raw fish and shellfish, or seafood-based first courses, such as pasta with clams or scampi risotto, it pairs magnificently with baked fish flavored with Mediterranean herbs or Sicilian fish soups. It also pairs beautifully with fresh goat cheeses or Asian fusion dishes, particularly sushi and sashimi.
The De Bartoli winery, founded in 1978 by Marco De Bartoli, is today a benchmark for quality Sicilian viticulture. The estate, which extends across 40 hectares in the Marsala area and on the island of Pantelleria, stands out for its decidedly traditional yet no less revolutionary approach, with minimal intervention, a commitment to organic practices, spontaneous fermentations, and lengthy aging, respecting as closely as possible ancient local winemaking traditions. The unusual choice here, to dry-age Zibibbo, a grape traditionally used for sweet and straw wines, reflects the winery's desire to explore new expressions of native Sicilian grapes while maintaining a deep connection to the terroir. Production follows organic farming principles, and aging takes place in stainless steel to preserve the grape's fragrance. The name itself, Pietra Nera, refers to the volcanic nature of Pantelleria's soil, which gives the wine its characteristic savory minerality.
