Description:

In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red with garnet hues. The bouquet is complex and layered, where notes of ripe red fruit blend with hints of Mediterranean herbs, dark spices, and underbrush. With oxygenation, aromas of leather, tobacco, and a hint of graphite emerge. On the palate, it displays a substantial yet elegant structure, where refined tannins integrate perfectly with a vibrant freshness. The palate then develops with balance, revealing flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry, and balsamic notes, with a long and harmonious finish. A versatile wine that pairs perfectly with traditional Sicilian cuisine, such as Pasta alla Norma, eggplant caponata, or pasta with sardines. It is also excellent with grilled red meats and char-grilled horse meat, as well as medium-aged cheeses.

The De Bartoli winery, founded in 1978 by Marco De Bartoli, is today a benchmark for quality Sicilian viticulture. The estate, which extends across 40 hectares in the Marsala area and on the island of Pantelleria, stands out for its decidedly traditional yet no less revolutionary approach, with minimal intervention, a commitment to organic farming, spontaneous fermentations, and lengthy aging, respecting as closely as possible ancient local winemaking traditions. Pignatello, named after the "pignate," the terracotta amphorae once used for winemaking, is an ancient Sicilian grape variety, widespread before the arrival of phylloxera. The winery has helped rediscover and promote it (as its name suggests), although the wine is now aged in French oak barrels for approximately 18 months.
