Description:

A deep amber color with topaz highlights, it offers a broad and complex bouquet of dried fruit, almonds, walnuts, and dates, with notes of honey, caramel, vanilla, and an elegant touch of exotic spices. On the palate, it is semi-dry, warm, and enveloping, with a perfect balance between sweetness and dryness, supported by a pleasant aromatic freshness. The finish is extremely long and persistent, with a return of spicy and dried fruit notes. Perfect as a meditation wine or as an accompaniment to aged cheeses and dry desserts, it is traditionally paired with Sicilian desserts such as cannoli, cassata, and almond paste cookies, or with a classic from the Palermo area: buccellato, a dessert made with dried figs, almonds, walnuts, and chocolate. It is also interesting with foie gras and truffle-based dishes.

Donna Franca represents one of the most prestigious expressions of Marsala from the Florio Cellars, founded in 1833 and a key figure in the history of this iconic wine. Dedicated to Donna Franca Florio, a legendary figure of Sicily's Belle Époque, this Marsala Superiore Riserva is produced from a selection of Grillo, Catarratto, and Inzolia grapes grown in western Sicily. After vinification and fortification with wine alcohol, the wine ages for over 15 years in oak barrels of various sizes in the evocative Florio farmhouse in Marsala. The long aging in an oxidative environment gives the wine extraordinary aromatic complexity and the characteristic dried fruit notes typical of great Marsalas.
