Description:
A deep ruby red with purple highlights, it presents a complex, Mediterranean bouquet on the nose, with notes of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, aromatic herbs, and a mineral undertone typical of the calcareous soils of the Hyblaean area. On the palate, it is structured and enveloping, with soft, well-integrated tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering finish with hints of Mediterranean scrub. It pairs magnificently with savory first courses such as pasta alla norma, grilled red meats, roast lamb with potatoes, and aged Sicilian cheeses such as Pecorino Siciliano and Caciocavallo Ragusano. It pairs perfectly with local specialties such as eggplant rolls and Pachino tomato dishes.
Since 1920, this family-run winery in Ispica has been dedicated to wine, particularly Nero d'Avola. Over the years, they have found the perfect balance between scientific research and Sicilian winemaking tradition. The Riofavara family cultivates their vineyards in the Sicilia DOC region, in the southeastern part of the island, characterized by calcareous soils and a Mediterranean climate. S. Basilio represents the purest expression of the company's Nero d'Avola, obtained through traditional vinification with prolonged maceration on the skins, controlled fermentation, and aging in wood, enhancing the varietal characteristics of Sicily's flagship grape.
