A brilliant garnet red with a fruity aroma, especially of red berries and violets, with hints of tobacco and spice. Like the Bordeaux varieties of Pomerol, from which the scions are sourced, it is full-bodied on the palate, with velvety, refined tannins and a long finish, balanced by a fresh minerality and enriched by lengthy aging first in new French oak barrels and then in concrete vats (according to Bordeaux tradition).

Andrea Franchetti, who immediately realised the affinities between his soils and the clay-limestone, gravel-rich soils of St. Emilion, produced Palazzi until the end of the 1990s by blending Merlot with Cabernet Franc, before switching to pure Merlot grapes in 2009, with even more excellent yields thanks to the mild climate and high-density planting.
